Don't Be Late!!

Are you one of those people that are habitually late? You're late for your friends, meetings, events for which you have paid money and purchased tickets? Maybe you are the victim of one of these inconsiderate people.

Unfortunately, habitual tardiness does not discriminate and people who are habitually tardy are also that way for church.  One Bronx parish has clearly reached its limit of tolerance. St. Raymond’s Church decided to do something about it. In their bulletin, they published “Why Are So Many Late?” This simple posting, reminding people about being habitually late, really does stand out because it is not common to see such a posting in a church bulletin. Mass doesn’t suddenly spring upon us out of no where. Every church has masses scheduled well in advance for every Sunday. There are few reasons to be late.

It must be a distraction to the priest since they likely can see every single person who enters late but it is extremely distracting to the congregants who are trying to connect with God. It is difficult enough to disconnect from the craziness of everyday life to connect with God, so when one is able to reach that place and then have it interrupted by someone who is disrespectful of God and fellow man, it really puts one in a very NON-spiritual place.

We can all forgive occasional tardiness but when a person does it regularly there is clearly something wrong…likely something that you or I can do nothing about. Habitually late people clearly don’t realize or care that they are incredibly disrespectful and inconsiderate of others’ time and, in the case of events - such as plays, concerts and even church - disrespectful of the people they have to displace to get to their seats.  In the case of live events, it is even distracting to the performers.

If you are one of those that is habitually late, please consider being respectful and getting to church, friends and events on time.
